Garmin nüvi 285W/285WT 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with Traffic...

This sleek widescreen navigator takes you there with preloaded maps and turn-by-turn directions that call out streets by name. It delivers real-time local weather, traffic, movie times, stock information, gas prices, news and local events as you navigate. The 285WT provides complete maps for North America and the handy Text-to-Speech feature, so you get turn-by-turn spoken directions with the real names of streets (e.g. "turn left in 50 feet at Nebraska Way", rather than merely "turn left in 50 feet"). Like the rest of the nüvi 205-series, this portable navigator is priced right and ultra-easy to use.
I have been reading these reviews for a while as I was trying to figure out how much to spend and which Garmin works best. I have to say that the 285 is very quick, simple to use, and full featured. The MSN direct is pretty good. And they offered my a deal for the rest of the time they are offering service for 29.95. SO for 18 months I have service that is a long time in electronics. So this will work well for the next year or so and I will hand it down to my family as I look for the next latest and greatest. But for the great deal I got here at Amazon. It offers bluetooth, traffic, msn direct, and photos. ...read more ⇒

Garmin nüvi 765T 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator...

Garmin continues to build up its nu"vi 7xx series portable GPS navigators with its nu"vi 765T, which adds a number of handy routing and communication features to an already moving record of specs, such as a 4.3-inch widescreen display, text-to-speech capabilities, media player, and FM transmitter for transmitting audio--including directions and MP3 music and audiobooks--from the device to your car radio.I received my 765T a couple of days ago and love it so far. After reading some up and down reviews, I wasn't certain what to expect. I am pleasantly surprised.

To start, the unit's volume's plenty loud, even at highway speeds. The screen is readable at all times, and automatically changes to a darkened "night mode" at night - well-to-do on the eyes. You could force it to day or night mode, if desired.

The map's movement and fluidity is tremendous. It has a very natural looking motion at all times. Garmin claims the unit updates at 10fps, and it seems to be about that. I am still deciding if I prefer 3D or 2D mode yet, but both are great. I tested routing on a few trips and the navigation worked perfectly. Directions were given in plenty of time, and repeated at appropriate intervals. When just driving (not navigating) the green bar at the top displays your current road, and even displays the next exit when driving (not navigating) on major highways. This was unexpected for me and very cool! The voice on the unit is clear.

The overall feel of the software is great. The menus move fast and seem logically laid out. You can add categories to your favorites to better organize them. This helped a lot, since favorites are sorted by default via distance from your current location. Creating folders for your favorites works very well. You can even add a picture (and phone #) to your favorites. Very nice!

As for Bluetooth: I paired the 765 with my Blackberry Storm easily, and everything works flawlessly. My phone's contacts transferred immediately, and I can call Points of Interest and people from my contacts easily, with 1 touch. I do not have any of the bluetooth issues described in different places. No issues at all. So I'm either lucky or maybe there is some inconsistency in the hardware. More likely, different combinations of cell phones and GPS units lead to varying results. IMPORTANT: I did update the unit to it's update firmware, which many say have helped their bluetooth connections.

I haven't been to an area with a traffic reception signal yet, so I can't comment on the traffic function.

All the other niceties work well for me also: The picture viewer, MP3 player, etc all work as advertised. I even put 1 of my pics as the startup image.

In conclusion, I am very pleased with the product so far. This is a great product that I would highly recommend.

The Advantages of Database-Driven Software and GPS for Businesses

Today's business owners need database-driven software, whether they have a single location or dozens of branches across the country. Making use of GPS tracking is advisable, especially for companies that transport equipment, own vehicles or need to be able to track down inventory quickly.

GPS is an absolute necessity for any companies that have vehicles, regardless of what they are transporting. It has been my experience that getting lost is one of the biggest time wasters in the transportation business. Wondering whether or not the driver is being completely honest is not being overly suspicious. Every business owner has had employees that milked the clock. Employee theft is not a rarity, either. We all attempt to hire honest employees, but even if you think you're a good judge of character, you never know what individuals are capable of. By helping you keep a close eye on inventory and income, database-driven software able to help you cut out employee theft. When theft does occur, it makes it easier to determine who the culprit was and take quick action.

Installing GPS systems on company vehicles should eliminate lost drivers. With the right programming, it could allow you to keep track of everyone's location as well. If you are a hands-on manager or business owner, these kinds of computer tools are invaluable. They save you time and everyone knows that time is money.

If you are concerned about the cost of database-driven software, let me assure you that today's programs are affordable for everyone. Of course, the costs vary depending on your company's needs, but generally speaking smaller companies have smaller needs, so they can afford the programs. Larger companies have bigger needs, but they also have a bigger budget. You really cannot afford to operate without the update technology.

GPS or Global Positioning System was originally developed for the Department of Defense. Like so numerous different technologies, it eventually made it to the private sector. If an employee complains that the system is inaccurate or dysfunctional, it is simple to have the device evaluated to verify that. Typically, they have a long history of accurate function.

Some of the Online Offers For Free GPS Software

I took a look at many of the online offers for free GPS software as well as found, like many "free" offers there were often limits and provisos involved. Often the freeware's a scaled--down version of purchasable products. for more detail go to: www.text2speech-converter.com.Sometimes the free product has restricted functionality with features disabled, other products are trial--based and are disabled after a some time (hours or days or use).

There are online sites that list various free GPS software and describe how to use the programs after you download them. Often individuals who have used the programs themselves develop the sites. These are great because they give you an unbiased interpretation of the benefits and disadvantages of the programs before you use them.

Using free GPS software you can download programs that allow you to retrieve and display aerial photos, topographical maps, for more detail go to: www.software-designers-pro.com. USGS landmarks. There are programs accessible that allow you import scanned images and add latitude and longitude points and other data.

Free GPS software downloads are available for PDA units that are capable of communication with GPS receivers. With these downloads you can have a useful navigation assistant, location database manager, and GPS data converter.

Programs to manage GPS waypoint and route files are available for both PC and Mac users. The waypoints and route files can be saved or converted to various formats used by other mapping programs.

If you need to transfer information to and from your GPS receiver and your home computer or laptop there are several free programs that allow you to do so. There are also programs that allow Gamin GPS receivers to "talk" to one another.

Many of the programs listed there are directed at the hiking/trekker community, but there are also free programs available for auto GPS systems and marine navigational systems. I found a couple of marine navigation programs that allow you to download nautical charts and plotters.

There are free GPS software programs that allow you to download street maps that might not be included in your auto--navigation system. If you intend downloading in--vehicle software, make sure that it has audio capacity, an important safety factor for motorists. One such program offers data for several countries with voice guidance in twelve languages.

Free GPS software is also available for downloading to your cell phone. This is mostly tracking software and can be phone specific. You might want to check with your carrier before downloading anything to your cell phone to make sure that it does not incur extra charges.

As satellites are constantly moving, it is helpful to know the optimal time for data collection in your area. There is free GPS software that includes an almanac to let you know the availability of satellites at any given time.

Some of the free GPS software is label specific. Programs designed for a Gamin receiver may not work for a Magellan, so check out the specifications carefully, especially if you intend purchasing a registered version after your trial period. Other software works with most brands.
