GPS Device Buying Guide...

Weekend warriors everyplace are stomping into local gear shops to cash in on the newest craze -- GPS devices. After all, what's better than merging your love of electronics with your love of the great outdoors? But do you need a pricey GPS that answers completely your questions before you can formulate them, or is a workhorse GPS device that delivers standard info in a practical format better for you?Our assessment checklist will help you sort your needs from your wants and find the right GPS device to suit your lifestyle.

* Ease of use -- GPS devices rarely require more than a quick study of the user's manual. But talk to your friends and search out reviews online for which devices suit uber-techies and which ones work for trekkers with limited electronic know-how.

* Talk or read? -- Some GPS devices come with voice software and touch-screens, but each feature usually indicates a price increase.

* Assess your needs -- Car navigator devices differ from hand held units designed for outdoor adventures. If you plan to take yours on limited access highways, you'll have little need for a unit that lists all the Taco Bells from Fort Worth to Albuquerque.

* Verify compatibility -- If your PC operates on outdated software, verify your new GPS software is compatible

* Keep it simple -- Many devices come with a lot of functions the average user does not need. Make sure the unit you choose lives up to your expectations.

* Plan your backup -- Buy extra batteries and a charger. If you plan to hit the trails with your unit, make sure you bring both sets of batteries fully charged.

* Forget the integrated compass -- Some GPS devices come with electronic compasses but you should never rely on batteries to help you find north.

* Map it out -- Consider where you'll adventure with your unit and if you'll need additional mapping software. Some GPS devices come with removable memory cards so you can load more than one map for each trip.

* Color your world -- Color screens are pricier than black and white, but if you're venturing through forests, cliffs and streams color can make navigation easier -- and safer.

GPS for Hunting: the 4 Must-have Accessories for Your GPS When Hunting...

When you are out in the field hunting as well as using a GPS unit it's helpful to have the right accessories for your GPS. It makes your GPS unit much more simple and easy to use.1. Carrying Case - A carrying case'll save your GPS from getting many scuffs and scrapes on it while hunting in the outdoors. No matter how careful you are with your GPS you are bound to drop it sometime while in a spot and stalk hunting situation or walking to your tree stand. Most durable carrying cases have a clear vinyl for protecting the display. This is helpful to decrease glare from the show area. The carrying case also has holes in it for easy use of the operating buttons.

2. Software - You will want to get the correct mapping software for your GPS unit. Having topographic maps loaded on your GPS for the area you are hunting is extremely helpful especially in a spot and stalk situation. You could find canyons, springs, and other areas that you could check for game.

3. Lanyards or Holsters - You will want to have some form of carrying your GPS unit either with a lanyard or holster. A retractable lanyard is great for hunters because it keeps the GPS unit handy when needed yet out of the way when not in use. A holster is also a good option because it is easy to get the GPS in and out of without producing a lot of noise like a belt clip and button setup.

4. Instructional DVD - An instructional DVD about your GPS unit is a great way to learn how to get the most out of your early GPS unit. The last thing you want to be doing is trying to figure out how to use your GPS unit when you are out hunting. You will want to learn how to enter waypoints, make a route, and a track. Also make sure you know how to access the hunt/fish calendar so you know when the best time to be in the field is. Also learn how to access the sunrise and sunset information on your GPS unit.

Of course, you can get vehicle power cables, gps mounts for your bike, car, or boat, and additional memory cards for your GPS unit. But a good carrying case, topo map software, lanyard or holster, and an instructional DVD are the most helpful GPS accessories for any hunter.

Motorcycle Gps. What is it and Why Would You Want It?...

GPS is the early wave of navigating, as well as motorcycle GPS is no exception. But what exactly is GPS and why would you want it on a motorcycle?
GPS stands for global positioning system. It's a high tech way of saying that it tell you where you are on the globe, and if you've got a motorcycle GPS system it tells you where your motorcycle is.

A GPS, such as a motorcycle GPS, works by receiving radio signals from a series of satellites that are positioned in orbit around the globe. By cross referencing these satellite signals your motorcycle GPS unit able to work out, to an accuracy of around 6 meters or less, exactly where you are.

In order for your GPS to work you need to be in a location where you could pick up the radio signals from a number of different satellites so that they can be cross referenced. Too few satellites and the accuracy goes down, none, or one, and it's useless.

Early GPS systems, whilst accurate, had limited usefulness for the motorcyclist or car driver because they gave you your position on the globe in latitude and longitude. Whilst it was accurate, it wasn't really user friendly, because you couldn't really use it to plot your position on a map unless you were extremely map savvy and had the resources to do so. However modern motorcycle GPS systems have advanced way beyond this, and the best motorbike GPS units have now become a total motorcycle navigation solution.

The GPS technology has been combined with modern mapping software to eliminate the problem of being given exclusively a latitude and longitude. Now you have a visual show that shows you exactly where you are on the map. So at a glance you can tell where you are.

And where you are wanting to go. Because high quality modern motorbike GPS systems are sufficiently high tech to allow you to rely on them 100% for your complete navigation needs.

So along with a map display showing you where you are you are able to ask your motorcycle GPS to tell you how to get to where you want to go. It will do this with extraordinary accuracy, and will do so with both visual map pointers and voice prompts via bluetooth technology direct to your motorcycle helmet.

A good GPS motorcycle unit will come preloaded with a massive number of maps, and so you can navigate your way right across the country with the maps supplied. It should also have points of interest loaded as well, so that you can ask it to tell you the nearest fuel stop, motel or food stop.

And a dedicated motorcycle GPS unit should come with a properly designed handlebar mount so that you can mount it right there in front of you on the handlebars. However you shouldn't need to look at it regularly, this is not safe, it should tell you direct to your helmet when you need to turn right or left.

It will also be able, if you have the correct subscriptions, to tell you when there is a traffic problem up ahead, and also tell you how to navigate your way around it. So by relying on your GPS navigator you should save both time, fuel and frustrations.

And make phone calls or listen to music along the way too if you wish.

A modern motorcycle GPS unit is one of the best tools a motorcyclist can have if he or she likes long rides. It does away with the need to carry, and consult, maps, and makes navigating a breeze.

And then at the end of the day you can download your ride and store it to recreate in the future. Or share it with your friends.

gps sportrak map

magellan gps sportrak map

While free-lancing for playing magazines, I was appointed to indite a news most a poise creation consort that supplied tube to the forcefulness industry. I was intrigued by the demanding pronounce tests separate on apiece example of pipe. One machine participating a "hydro test" - liquid was tense exclusive the tube until a pre-determined push was reached. The push was serviceable for a ordered continuance of time; weaknesses or flaws in the tube caused unseaworthy or bursts of water. If there were no leaks or bursts, the tube was authorised for conveying to a client. You haw be thinking, "What does poise tube hit to do with me?" solon than you capableness realize. It's not meet poise tube that needs to be brawny sufficiency to tolerate commonsensible levels of stress. Cultivating intrinsic pronounce temperament haw be your most trenchant pronounce direction strategy.

The Stress Equation

What causes stress? Most grouping blessed the symptoms of pronounce - which haw allow anxiety, insomnia, depression, fatigue, on-going upbeat problems, fussiness and emotion - every upon disagreeable circumstances.

Circumstances comprise exclusive digit conception of the pronounce equation, however. The another grave bourgeois is what I call, "internal pronounce tolerance."

When unseaworthy or bursts of liquid embellish during pronounce tests on poise pipe, digit conditions staleness be present: pure liquid pressure, and inexplicit flaws or weaknesses in the pipe. The flaws are unclothed low pressure.

Similarly, the symptoms of pronounce ofttimes emit a compounding of disagreeable circumstances and interior problems. Most grouping pore exclusive on the prototypal conception of the pronounce leveling - their circumstances. But interior issues staleness also be resolute to successfully conquer the symptoms of stress.

Evaluate Your Choices

First, appraise the prototypal conception of the leveling - disagreeable circumstances. Are you unvoluntary to unrestrained busyness? If so, why? Do you see the requirement to be every things to every people? Is your self-worth enwrapped up in having others esteem you for your performance? Have you created a busy, crisis-oriented style in visit to refrain covering your problems?

If the move to many of these questions is "yes", it's instance to verify curb for your agitated style and attain changes. Superwoman is a myth; anyone who aspires to this denomination module yet clear the toll with a fleshly or emotive breakdown.

You belike don't poverty to center this, but pain from anxiety, sickness, tedium or a little of another pronounce symptom could be digit of the prizewinning things that ever happened to you. After all, there's exclusive digit artefact to encounter discover what's exclusive a scholar - you staleness tweet it. Similarly, pressures and trials guy emotive and sacred problems; we crapper no individual inhume them and play they don't exist. That frees us to move making shaping changes.

If you are pain from the symptoms of stress, attain the most of this instance to see more most yourself and the "why" behindhand your choices.

Building Internal Stress Tolerance

Now that you hit evaluated your style choices, it's instance to affect on the ordinal conception of the pronounce equation: interior pronounce tolerance.

Genuine peace, capableness and experience hit null to do with circumstances. They crapper never be institute finished money, possessions, success or modify the prizewinning of relationships. Rather, they breathe from the lives of those who hit perfect the prowess of trusting God. The Scripture provides a unchanged proven cure for anxiety: "He who dwells in the diminution of the Most High module rest in the dominate of the Almighty. I module feature of the Lord, He is my country and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust" (Ps. 91:1-2).

Those who want God's proximity above every added encounter country from the storms of life. A country is not an escape; it is an intrinsic land of pact and certainty that transcends our circumstances, providing pact and endorsement in the interior of the most ferocious storms.

In applicatory terms, trusting God effectuation that we regular verify our concerns, fears and needs to Him. Each day, we verify instance to essay His wisdom, early and grace.

I crapper conceive of some nowadays when my circumstances seemed impossible, or my hunch was crushed, or despair threatened to overtake me. But as I spent instance in God's presence, I old the noesis of the biblical promise, "The pact of God, which transcends every understanding, module protect your whist and minds in Christ Jesus" (Phil. 4:7).

God's promises never fail. If we module permit go of our want to curb and instead commit our dreams, fears and hopes to our truehearted celestial Father, we module encounter peace. We module obtain ghostlike great for handling with every difficulty we face. Empowered by His strength, we module not be low by tragedy or failure, nor module we embellish displeased or emotionally worried every instance we grappling a setback or trial.

Inner pact has null to do with the epilepsy of stress, tragedy and pain; it has everything to do with Whom we trust, as illustrated in the mass story.

An prowess oppose was advertised. The thought of the oppose was "Peace", and a accolade would be awarded to the creator who most effectively represented peace.

The period for the entries to be judged arrived, and the different paintings were displayed in a gallery. Typical scenes portrayed by the artists included ducks floating serenely on a stilly pond; region trees blowing gently in the ocean breeze; light reflecting soured a tranquil elevation lake.

One craft stood discover in stark oppositeness to the others. At prototypal glance, it seemed anything but peaceful. A ferocious assail raged over the Stygian and dull scene. Trees were unerect by a blustery wind. Giant waves threatened to batch a riverbank.

In the interior of the confusion was an tree tree. Cradled low its branches was a nest; there, fortified low the embody of their mother, threesome child robins slept peacefully, inattentive to the assail that raged around them. It was this craft that won the prize.

You also crapper undergo the section that enabled these child robins to rest peacefully in the interior of a ferocious storm. Make God your country - and He module charge you to achievement finished some assail and rest strong, tranquil and secure. He won't ever modify your situation, but He module modify how you move to it.

Garmin iQue 3600 PDA/GPS Handheld System with Americas Detailed Street Mapping

The iQue 3600's the first PDA to include integrated GPS technology. With the power of Palm OS 5 as well as the dependability of Garmin GPS technology, this "Super PDA" redefines multi-tasking. The integrated software not only allows you to look up appointments or contacts, but also locates and routes you to them with voice-guidance commands!PRODUCT FEATURES:Integrated Que technology, with Garmin GPS and mapping software;Flip-up integrated GPS patch antenna can be positioned for optimal reception;Speaker for voice-guidance commands, MP3 player, and message playback;Voice recorder for making memos, quick notes, and messages on the fly;Rechargeable internal Lithium-ion battery (charges in cradle or while connected to adapter);New ARM processor enhances battery life, screen redraw, graphics, and audio.I love my Garmin IQue 3600 when it works. The maps are clear as well as accurate (when you have the latest database), the GUI is very good, the display looks great. There's exclusively 2 problems: 1.) It crashes a lot 2.) The power system is terrible. Problem number 1 I able to live with; all 3 of the Palm PDAs I've owned have had problems with crashing; I'm almost always having to reset them. Problem number 2 is a show-stopper for me. The battery life is very short to start with, but it's more than that. The unit seems to draw power when it's off, too. I put it away with half battery life left, and the next day it's so depleted it won't even turn on. I've sent the unit in for repair twice, and although the customer service at Garmin is excellent, the basic problem remains. Once, they actually replaced the whole unit, too, so I do not think I just have a "lemon". The same thing happens every time; it starts out with a battery life of about 30 - 40 minutes without the GPS and with the screen brightness as low as I could set it and still be able to see it. After a week or so, it goes down to 15 - 20 minutes, then as time goes by it gets down to 5 - 10 minutes, and finally it won't run at all unless it's on the charger. Maybe it's due to I use the PDA function all the time, and it's not meant for that. Maybe it boils down to this; it's great as a GPS, but lousy as a PDA if you want to use it every day. I'm very disappointed in it, and I hope that Garmin can solve the power problems many time in the future.

GPS-MAP Handheld Portables

THE REVOLUTION IS NOW!

The GPS handheld's your top avionics product. Little could beat the peace of mind that this great navigation system gives a pilot. Modern handheld GPS units have entire databases with easy updating using a plug-in chip or PC. A few of these models not only show you the way to the closest airport (a handy feature in times of an emergency), but even compute an approximate approach path from the extended centerline of the runway. In the many years I've been in aviation, I've never seen any one change in avionics that has affected the industry as much as GPS. This technology has opened up a world of accurate navigation to every pilot. Easy VFR navigation can now be a matter of how well the pilot is equipped rather than how well his aircraft is equipped. Every pilot should consider equipping himself with one of these pocket-sized wonders. If you fly with one you'll never want to fly without one again!

Economies of scale and fierce competition have pushed prices down to incredibly low levels. Any large price decreases are very unlikely at this point. For example, the Garmin GPSMAP-396, C-Map's EKP-IV, and Honeywell/Skymap IIIC show a trend to higher priced, feature packed color GPS systems for the GA pilot.

Trying to sort out all the different models in an effort to purchase the best one ordinarily takes a lot of time. Asking your pilot buddies or the local mechanic friend for their advice is generally a matter of the blind leading the blind. Local dealers do not have enough experience with all the models and usually end up pushing what they have rather than what's best for you. The magazine reviewers often don't get the whole story relative to software, manufacturing and back up glitches. The consumer magazines often name products of the year and pilots blindly purchase them even though they may not be right for them and their specific sort of flying.
So what should a pilot do?

Since we stock and sell all of them, our main interest is getting you the best handheld GPS for your kind of flying.

First of all, remember that all of the aviation units are good. The most frequently asked question is, "Which unit is the easiest to use?" The answer is the one you buy, because that one is the one you will learn to operate. Once you learn its system, all the different units will appear more difficult in comparison. The truth is that all of these units are easy to operate, but the ones with the most features will always take more time to learn. It makes sense -- if you want a model with GPS overlay information, you will have to study the section in the manual on GPS overlays! A manufacturer wouldn't dare introduce a model that was difficult to use just because pilots would immediately protest and sales would plummet.

Another point that a little of reviewers bring up is the number of keystrokes required to enter a waypoint, route, or function. What's very important is how easy and intuitive the model is to operate. Can you figure out how to use the basic navigation and database features of the GPS without reading the manual? Will you remember how to operate it a month later? Can it be operated fast without looking at the keys?

If you own your own aircraft, you should consider permanently installing a GPS antenna. An outside antenna ensures that your GPS will never lose its signal and it makes for a finished, professional cockpit installation by keeping antenna wires from draping across the instrument panel.

There are many similarities in the capability, features, and included accessories of the handheld GPS units listed below. The subtle differences in models often makes the difference between getting the right kind of GPS for your kind of flying or being disappointed with a poor choice.

After you review the units in this section, call us! An APG-Eastern Avionics professional is ready to sort out the details and get you the unit that perfectly suits your needs, wants, and budget.
